Ken Marino and Natasha Leggero Have Burning Love For ‘The Bachelor’
Growing up, I loved watching MTV’s sketch comedy show The State and I credit it with molding my warped sense of humor. It starred many of today’s top comic talent including Michael Ian Black, Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Thomas Lennon, Joe Lo Truglio, Michael Showalter, David Wain, and everyone’s favorite bully, Ken Marino. It’s crazy to think that show only lasted 26 episodes considering how much of a cult following it had and the success its cast has experienced since (with Reno 911!, Children’s Hospital, Wet Hot American Summer, etc.). If any of the above names are attached to a program, it’s a Robert Ben Garantee I’m watching it. Two punches for a bad pun.
Cue Burning Love, a scripted comedy series executively co-produced (?) by Ben Stiller, which spoofs The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Season 1 showcased fireman Mark Orlando (played by Ken) as the bachelor, with June Diane Raphael (Agent Piper on Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV) as one of the contestants. Season 2 of the series, which premiered in February 2013, stars June as the bachelorette searching for her soulmate. Season 3 will also premiere in 2013 and star former contestants from Seasons 1 and 2 competing for a $900 prize rather than for love. Cash rules everything around us. C.R.E.A.U.
If you’re a fan of cameos, this series has got ‘em coming out the ears. Adam Scott, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Jerry O’Connell, Adam Brody, Michael Cera, Colin Hanks, Nick Kroll, Ken Jeong, Malin Akerman, and Jennifer Aniston. Yes. Her.
Senior Editor Anthony Layser sat down with Ken and Natasha Leggero, who plays the “sex freak” Haley on the show, to argue about movies, shows, and songs that are so bad, they’re good in the latest installment of Dailymotion’s original interview series, Profound Minutiae. I’m really proud of Tony for holding his ground. I don’t think I’d have the chops to go toe-to-toe with Ken. And I’d become a lil’ schoolgirl-fanboy anytime Natasha locked eyes with me. We’d still be down there working on take 1,000 if I were interviewing. Over-budget like whoa.
