6 Most Anticipated Video Games: March 2013

As of publish, we only have sales data up until the week ending February 16th, so we don’t really know how 3 of February’s 5 most anticipated games have performed. But, we do know as of 2/16 that Aliens Colonial Marines has sold more than 630,000 units while Dead Space 3 has surpassed 777,000 units. One title that didn’t make our list that crushes both of those aformentioned titles is Dragon Warrior VII for the 3DS with 1+ million units sold. People love slaying those giant flying lizards. Watch your back, Geico.
Of course, the big news from February was Sony’s announcement of their PlayStation 4 console. The release date is set for right before Thanksgiving – November 17th, 2013. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks impressive, however, the big knock is it won’t be backwards compatible. One wonders how much of an impact that will have on sales for PS3 titles moving forward.
So, while we wait for the next gen, we’ve got 6 more highly anticipated games releasing in March that you should check out.
Tomb Raider
Developer: Crystal Dynamics
Publisher: Square Enix
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Genres: Action-adventure, platform
Modes: Single-player, multiplayer
RATINGS:
GameRankings (X360) 87.12%, (PS3) 86.70%
Metacritic (PS3) 88/100, (X360) 86/100
Eurogamer 8/10
Game Informer 9.25/10
GameSpot 8.5/10
GameTrailers 8.5/10
IGN 9.1/10
Official PlayStation Magazine (UK) 8/10
Digital Spy’s Most Anticipated Game of 2013 also received the coveted ‘GamesMaster Gold Award’. IGN called it “exciting”, “beautifully presented”, adding that it had “great characterization” and “more depth than you would expect.” The review also claimed it was ”a new beginning for Lara Croft that does justice to one of gaming’s most iconic characters”.
And, if you watched Conan’s Clueless Gamer segment on it, there are numerous opportunities in the game to perv out with a bevy of busty cleavage shots but one sequence in particular that’s a little hard to swallow.
MLB ’13 The Show
Developer: SCE Studios San Diego
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Platforms: PS3, PS Vita
Release Date: March 5th, 2013
Genre: Sports
The 2013 installment of the #1 selling Major League Baseball video game franchise includes new features such as a completely new beginner mode, and instructional enhancements. In addition, the improved Play Now mode streamlines gameplay, for faster and simpler games. It also offers the option to play with friends around the world at no extra cost on PlayStation Network.
Andrew McCutchen on the cover is a little weird. I know he’s an All-Star, but is he really that well-known? On a side note, I saw two Pirates fans cross paths on an empty subway car at midnight last night. That’s like winning the lotto or seeing the Loch Ness monster, right?
God of War: Ascension
Developer: SCE Santa Monica Studio
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment
Platform: PlayStation 3
Release date: March 12th, 2013
Genres: Hack and slash, action-adventure
Modes: Single-player, Multiplayer
This prequel will be the 7th installment in the God of War series and is loosely based on Greek mythology. It’ll be set in Ancient Greece with the player controlling the protagonist Kratos, the former servant of the God of War, Ares. Kratos attempts to sever ties with Ares—who tricked Kratos into killing his wife and child—by defeating the three Furies. No word yet on whether or not Nick Fury is one of ‘em.
The game will feature:
- Revamped quick time events that require the player to complete various game controller actions in a timed sequence to defeat stronger enemies and bosses.
- Puzzles and platforming elements.
- Multiplayer and be developed with stereoscopic 3D (first installment to do so)
- Revamped combat and weapon system
- New gameplay mechanics
- Downloadable content
Gears of War: Judgment
Developers: Epic Games, People Can Fly
Publisher:Microsoft Studios
Platform: Xbox 360
Release date: March 19th, 2013
Genre: Third-person shooter

This prequel is the fourth title within the Gears of War series and features Damon Baird and Augustus Cole as protagonists.
Gamespot confirmed that gamers who pre-order the game at Wal-Mart’s website will receive either Gears of War 2 or Gears of War 3 at no additional cost. All customers who pre-order their games elsewhere will receive a download code for the original Gears of War as well as another download token for the Classic Hammerburst weapon.
Players can purchase a “VIP Season Pass” which offers players a permanent double experience boost and early access to two additional expansions which include six new multiplayer maps, two modes, five weapon skins, and four armor skins.
Personally, I’m still waiting for the awesome mashup “Grinds My Gears of War” in which Peter Griffin’s news segment, “Grinds My Gears” is intercut with this franchise. Internet Gold, homey.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14
Developer: EA Tiburon
Publisher: EA Sports
Platforms: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Release date: March 26th, 2013
Genre: Sports (Golf)
Modes: Single-player, multiplayer
This title will include Legends of the Majors mode, where players will be able to compete in notable tournaments from the 1930s through to the present day. Equipment physics (along with the outfits of players) will also change to simulate the conditions and differences of each era.
LPGA events (such as the Kraft Nabisco Championship) will also be introduced to Career mode for the first time in series history, and all four Men’s major golf championships will also appear as well. Country Clubs will now be able to house up to 100 members, and a customizable day/night cycle will also be included.
“Talk about a hole in one.” – Happy Gilmore
BioShock Infinite
Developers: Irrational Games, 2K Marin
Publisher: 2K Games
Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Release date: March 26, 2013
Genre: First-person shooter
Mode: Single-player
This title won the “Best of Show” award from the Game Critics Awards, as well as “Best Original Game”, “Best Action/Adventure Game”, and “Best PC Game”.
I’m still waiting on the vaunted installment BioShock and Awe, which should be way better than BioShock the Monkey.
