January 24th is “Beer Can Appreciation Day.” This unofficial holiday celebrates that great day in 1935 when beer was first sold in cans and was most likely a result of the end of Prohibition in the US at the end of 1933.

The popularity of canned beverages was slow to catch on, as the metallic taste was difficult to overcome with the interior liner not perfected, especially with more acidic sodas. I feel like there are a ton of canned beers that still have that problem. Looking at you PBR.

As a dude, I prefer to drink out of cans but I like my ladies slugging from a bottle. Yes, I’m a pervert, but it gets me through long, cold, wintry nights at the bar. Also, I can crush the can after being done and no one will look at me like I’m trying to start a fight. Trying to brawl with an empty beer can is a losing proposition. Full beer cans, though, can do some damage.

As a distributor though, you most likely prefer flat-top cans because they’re more compact for transportation and storage and weigh less.
