Toy Story was released in 1995 and proceeded to pull in more than $360 million at the worldwide box office. It was also nominated for three Academy Awards. In addition to being the first feature-length computer-animated film, Toy Story spurred a movement that has become a mainstay in the movie industry and created a whole new Oscar category.

To say people love the film is an understatement. Some fans might buy the collectibles, the souvenirs, maybe even create a video compilation, mashup, or supercut, but few would take years and expound the resources to film the entire movie “in real life” shot for shot.

Yet, that’s what happened here. Pixar enthusiasts Jonason Pauley and Jesse Perrotta combined their own footage with the film’s original audio. It’s very similar to the process called, “Sweding,” which was covered in Michel Gondry’s 2008 comedy Be Kind Rewind starring Jack Black and Mos Def.

The process is way illegal as it violates copyright but it’s also quite the tribute. Jonason and Jesse were able to get around that little issue by actually traveling to Pixar’s headquarters and requesting permission to release the project online. Lucky for them, the studio brass was on-board with letting the public see what the boys created after nearly two-and-a-half years of work.
