Predictions can be fun. Some pan out, some don’t. Did anyone in their right mind have Psy and Carly Rae Jepsen on their lists of emerging artists to watch in 2012? Could anyone have predicted a reincarnation of the Backstreet Boys vs. N’Sync boy band battle in The Wanted vs. One Direction? As with any list, there were hits (depending on who you ask) like Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, Kendrick Lamar, fun., and A$AP Rocky and misses like Whatsherface, That Guy, and WHO?!?

13 ARTISTS TO WATCH IN 2013

1. Morning Parade

Morning Parade is a five piece indie rock band from Essex and they aren’t taking no for an answer. Be prepared to hear a lot more from these guys in the coming year.

2. Sky Ferreira

Influenced by Michael Jackson and the pop stars of the 2000s, Sky Ferreira brings a seducing, electro pop vibe back to melodic rhythms. Hear, hear!

3. Diamond Rings

If you like David Bowie, you’ll love Diamond Rings. Sterling performances and finely executed music videos.

4. Gold Fields

Because everything sounds better when it’s from down ‘unda. Plus, a double drummer never hurt anyone, did it?

5. Surfer Blood

Their debut album took fire this year. And with the second album dropping in early 2013, we’ll say 2013 will be a big year for the South Florida rockers.

6. How to Dress Well

This hauntingly beautiful album is a gift that just keeps giving. Catch up with Tom Krell on the West Coast in early 2013 if you can.

7. Jessie Ware 

If a Katy Perry endorsement isn’t enough of a sign that this lady is about to take over we don’t know what is.

8. Alt-J

Along with Deftones, Alt-J was recently confirmed to play the Reading and Leeds festival in 2013. You need to hear this before then.

9. Peaking Lights 

Take a ride through the intergalactic, techno-dream world of Peaking Lights’ Beautiful Son video. We’re sure you’ll stick around for more.

10. Eugene McGuinness

This UK lad has a voice made of dreams and we just can’t get enough. Keep your eyes peeled for when he makes it onto our shores.

11. Villagers 

The band’s label, Domino, is releasing their album {Awayland] on January 14th, 2013. A big new year for the group, indeed!

12. Melody’s Echo Chamber

Landing at #16 on NME’s Best Albums of 2012 list is no easy feat. Keep your eye on this one. We’re sure she’s only moving up.

13. Niki & The Dove 

Just watch this video and listen. You’ll understand why our ears are perked and tuned into this Swedish electronic/ indie trio from Stockholm.
