404 errors ?

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

It’s neither a psychology test nor a delirious geek trip ;)

At Dailymotion, we got it into our heads to customize our 404 pages with your videos!
A special group called “404 page not found” was created for the occasion.

Participating is simple:

  1. Create a funny video with your camera or your webcam - make sure it is less than 5 seconds.
  2. Add it to your Dailymotion account
  3. Subscribe to the group “404 page not found“.
  4. Finally, add your video to the 404 group!

A video is randomly selected from the group to play each time a user winds up at the 404 page.

Your 404 video could be shown the next time someone hits a dead end!

An example : http://www.dailymotion.com/a_not_found_page

Recommendations :

  • Raise your shoulders and wrinkle your eyebrows in astonishment.
  • Make a video of your 404 tattoo!
  • Do something more creative and unexpected with the numbers “404″.
  • The sky’s the limit - show us any interpretation of “lost”, “disappeared”, “empty”, whatever!

Do you take your 404 errors laying down - or do you do something about them?

More info on our counter

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Hello Everyone,

Over the last two months we have developed a new, more secure video
view counter. Before, a view was added whenever a page was reloaded,
and some crafty folks had a little fun gaming the popularity system on
Dailymotion.

Now, our counter has been updated so that it cannot represent false
views. Some figures might be lower than before, but they show the true
number of views, not the effects of a script or a bot. Keep your eyes
on the meter… you may be pleasantly surprised!

Cheers,

Akihabara News & Nihon Car

Friday, April 6th, 2007

Because there’s a little geek in all of us, we are pleased to announce that Akihabara News is using Dailymotion to host and distribute their videos. Akihabara News covers high-tech products straight out of Japan, and is available in eight languages. We are big fans of this site, their videos, their excellent articles, and the quality of their product reviews. We thank them for their confidence in Dailymotion. Don’t hesitate to check out their page!

In the same vein, and by the same authors, we have also established a partnership with Nihon Car. Nihon Car reviews the latest Japanese cars and bikes, visits Japanese auto shows and, in short, breaks every sort of motoring news from the Land of the Rising Sun. Be sure to discover their videos, which are worthy of the best television broadcasts.

If you also have a Web site, a production studio, a comedy troup, a talented music group, or otherwise produce creative content, do not hesitate to contact us and we’ll see what we can do together.

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

In order to feature the most creative content, and to encourage tomorrow’s talent, Dailymotion is launching the MotionMaker program. This program is intended to give more recognition to creative users, and will permit us to feature members’ videos both within and outside of the site. We will do our best to make your content visible to the largest audience.

Other benefits of this program include unlimited video upload (both size and duration) and a badge on your personal page identifying you as a MotionMaker in the community.

Now you have even more tools to express yourself, and to earn recognition for your work!

How does it work?

Click on the MotionMaker link in the footer of the website, choose a user category (musician, entertainer, filmmaker, or reporter), and follow the instructions. This program is currently in beta, so please check the FAQ or contact us for more information.

Please be aware that we will delete all videos with copyrighted content (even on the soundtrack) submitted to the program. Keep your nose clean, and have fun!

Dailymotion vs Metro

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

This evening, Dailymotion decided to visit their nice neighbours from Metro dailynewspapers (they are located on the 2nd floor in the same building) for a little joke.

Enjoy & Merry christmas!
