WINNER OF THE ANIMATION PROCREATION CONTEST ANNOUNCED
Below is a message from Loren Bouchard, judge of the animation contest….
Dear MotionMakers:
Well done. And thank you for sharing your work. In a contest with as modest a prize as this one, I wouldn’t have been surprised if entries were few and far between, but that’s not the case here at all. Besides the quantity, I’m impressed with the high level of originality. This is not a bunch of knock-offs - there are people taking real creative risks here. I’d like to recognize a few people/pieces for honorable mentions: stecker_show, happyfatties, MovingBoxStudio, and todd_spicer – thank you, great job.
jkenwks - “Mick the Mighty Miner” is really something. Keep doing stuff like that.
PSSTpassiton is a collective. So points right there, just for teaming up. That is key in this industry. I especially liked “Sparkle Esperantumor Stimulation”. Love 2D/3D mixed together.
And fugazi77: “Sunny Day All is Well” - another trippy piece, and another example of INCREDIBLY high quality animation and execution.
And now the winner…
The winner is Slothvision, who entered “The Sloth Life, It Can Changes”, “John Wolfington:Shotgun” and “PlanetX”. They all appealed to me immediately, but “The Sloth Life”, in particular, felt approachable and funny. The voice of the character came through (even though it was written), and there was a mature storytelling ability at work, with ups and downs and a bittersweet final beat that tied the whole thing together. A great short.
Thanks again everyone, for entering and for checking out each other’s work. I had a great time looking at all of these, and I had a great time working on our own little call-for-upload pieces. (Thank you, Nora.)

this is just a rip off of lolz catz, this just proves the fact that nothing in this world is original anymore. Cool if you get inspired by something but how about actually writing an original story, and if you think it can’t be done then you aren’t good enough to be filling this world with more crap. And to Loren I am a huge fan of Home Movies its great work I disagree with that blogger, but the American public is way to stupid to realize animals that speak in computer language and broken sentences is whats creating this rut we like to call our “superior intellect”. I offer up a challenge for someone to actually watch an entire lineup of adult swim shows and not feel like they just shoved a pen in their eye. Encouraging people to make fart jokes and bad green screen shows, I’m ashamed to call myself an animator. And so should everyone else.
Just to clear the air, I’m not at all trying to say I’m better than anyone because I know that is what people will get out of this. I love Home Movies, I love Sealab, but those shows are at least half way original and while I still laugh at the occasional fart I feel bad afterward because I know in my mind it shouldn’t be funny. Even my comedy hero Mel Brooks is ruining himself with his latest animated piece of garbage Space Balls, he took an epic movie and made it into toilet humor, just like every artist who answers to the person with the money, who has the kid that grows up with a television for parents because mommy is out spending the money that was made with a fart. I’m not the most intelligent person, I’ll be the first to admit it. But really this world would be a better place if people had to take IQ tests to become parents, or given proper care while growing up. We live in a time where data and knowledge is just a click away, and instead I found this at 2am because I was hoping to study animation techniques of a so called winner. No one cares about the process anymore, they just want results. Results don’t come from 15 mins in flash, and that first 10 is just the time it takes to learn the program. Take that time, and learn how to write, the animation comes after the story, not the other way around.
